In a complete contrast to last week’s close games, both Saturday games were largely one-way traffic as Bell Block Marist Dragons thrashed the Waitara Bears while Coastal Cobras completely overwhelmed Western Suburbs Tigers.

Bell Block Marist Dragons 64 Waitara Bears 18

On a beautiful winter afternoon, the Bell Block Marist Dragons hosted a somewhat depleted Waitara Bears side at Hickford Park Bell Block and it didn’t take long for the Dragons to fire into their work scoring early.  They continued scoring at will through some stunning play by the first half’s stand out player Enele Fidow playing in the centres.  He laid on four tries for his winger Brad Graham and scored three himself in what could only be described as outstanding play.  To cap off an outstanding half, he also kicked six goals for a personal haul of 24 points.  It was point a minute stuff as the Dragons went to the break 44-0 up and it looked like a cricket score was in the making!

The second half started in the same fashion as the Dragons continued to pile on the points with three more tries to lead 58-0 but the Bears finally got their act together and scored three tries of their own through some enterprising play but is was never going to be enough as the game finished with the two teams trading a try a piece for a final score of 64-18.

For the Dragons Fidow, who only played the first half, was a standout while Graham’s four first half tries were no mean feat by the veteran.  In the forwards brothers, Isaac Heknui and Anthony Kipa were strong while big Jonathon Fidow was more than a hanful.

For the Bears, young pint-sized winger Jaynard Barton tried hard while in the forwards Brent Martin was solid scoring two second half tries.

Coastal Cobras 52 Western Suburbs Tigers 14

The Tigers hosted the Cobras at Ngamotu Domain and it was a similar story as Coastal continued their good form this season.  The Tigers scored first however to lead 4-0 early but from then on it was all Coastal as they went to the break 34-4 up.  The second half was a more even contest but the Cobras experience showed through as they ran out 52-14 winners in an entertaining game.
